Platinum nanoparticles were synthesized and evaluated on different supports as catalysts for the decarboxylation/decarbonylation of heptanoic acid with a goal of forming 1-hexene. The effects of support, reaction phase and metal loading on activity, selectivity and stability are presented. Platinum supported on Norit-carbon was the most efficient catalyst tested.
