The effects of oxygen on the surface chemistry of multifunctional alcohols on Pd(111) has been probed by studying the reactions of 1,2-propanediol, benzyl alcohol and furfuryl alcohol on oxygen pre-covered Pd(111).  TPD and HREELS techniques were used to characterize these reactions and establish their reaction pathways.
