Carbon supported palladium-on-gold nanoparticles (Pd-on-Au/C) were highly active in room-temperature hydrogen generation from formic acid. The catalytic activity was tunable through Pd surface coverage. This catalyst material provides a potential way to utilize formic acid as a renewable and portable energy source.
