Vanadia supported by high surface area alumina was prepared by flame spray pyrolysis, with vanadia monomers or oligomers as the products. The best selectivity in oxidative dehydrogenation of propane to propene was obtained for vanadia monomers. A kinetic model based on oxidative dehydrogenation and total oxidation reactions was derived.
