We have investigated the reactivity of methoxy species with light alkenes on H-ZSM-5 by IR spectroscopy. Experiments using isotopes have revealed that the addition of methoxy species to ethene occurs via a fashion of a carbene-like intermediate; the methyl carbenium cation mechanism is not applicable in any cases.
