Nanoscale gold supported on ZnO with the preferred crystal structure has been identified as a promising new catalyst for the steam reforming of methanol (SRM).  ZnO shapes with a high fraction of {0001} surfaces are shown to be the most active for SRM with greater than 95% selectivity to CO2 below 250°C.
