Use of biomass (straw/wood) is of increasing importance since this type of fuel is considered CO2 neutral. Unfortunately, the flue gas becomes very poisonous towards the catalyst. Several approaches can be applied to design alkali-esistant catalysts or technologies eg. high surface high loading, sulfated catalysts and NOx absorption by ionic-liquids.
