Oxide nanotube (TiO2 and Fe2O3) supported gold photocatalysts were prepared. The addition of the gold resulted in a significant improvement in the electrocatalytic and optical properties of these materials, which enhanced hydrogen production rates. The active site location for water oxidation appears to depend on the particle size.
