The activity of methyltrioxorhenium (MTO) impregnated on ZnCl2-modified mesoporous alumina for the methyl oleate self-metathesis was studied. The maximum catalyst activity and desired metathesis product yields were obtained at 3 wt% MTO loading. The results suggest that it is possible to design a heterogeneous catalyst for selective metathesis of functionalized olefins.
