A high-sensitivity bioassay uses a detection protein for a disease biomarker that is labeled with Pd(2+). Treatment of this metalloprotein with a redox solution containing a leuco dye and reducing agent initially reduces the Pd(2+) to Pd(0) which then catalyzes reduction of the leuco dye to the assay dye signal.
