This work provides a fundamental understanding of NOx storage/release mechanisms on Ba- and K-based LNT catalysts.  It is found that although both the Ba- and K-based model LNT catalysts store NO2 as nitrates, there are significant differences in the decomposition pathways and morphology changes between these two families of materials.
