Biodiesel is readily produced using a homogeneous catalyst with conventional heating. However, a heterogeneous catalyst can exhibit similar activities with microwave heating and has the advantage that it is recoverable and reusable. Developing kinetic and mechanistic models describing the reaction with these different catalysts and heating methods are also desirable.
