The targeted synthesis and characterization of a single type of isolated tungsten oxo centers in high surface area silicate building block matrices is described.  Catalysis results for these nanostructured, single-site, heterogeneous catalysts in selective oxidation reactions such as Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of cyclic ketones and olefin epoxidation is also described.
