Experimental kinetics and DRIFTS have been combined with theoretical studies to identify adsorbed species on difference metals during the deoxygenation of furfural and propose possible reaction pathways. The study illustrates how detailed knowledge of adsorbed species on different metals can lead to desired products. For example, minimal reduction of carbon.
