The carbon deposition kinetics on lanthanide-promoted Co-Ni catalysts during CH4 dry reforming was captured by a power law model with parameters correlated with Pauling electronegativity of the rare-earth metal. Regeneration using TPR-TPO revealed the presence of two types of carbon pools. Rare-earth promotion reduced the amount of reactive carbon residue.
