Understanding the effect of solvents on liquid phase reactions is of fundamental importance to be able to control the selectivity of a reaction towards a desired product.  Ketoisphorone is an example of an α,β-unsaturated ketone where the solvent rather the choice of catalytic metal alters the reaction selectivity.
