We present a systematic study on the isomerization of n-octane using superacidic ionic liquids of the general type [cation]Cl/AlCl3/H2SO4. Highest catalytic activity was found for the molar ratio range 0.14 < H2SO4/AlCl3 < 0.21. Moreover, Supported ionic liquid (SILP) catalysts were synthesized and successfully tested in the slurry-phase n-octane isomerization.
