A gas mixture resembling the product gas from a biomass gasifier was reformed over monolithic catalysts. Tar (using toluene as a model compound) led only to a minor reduction in activity, whereas potassium salts in small concentrations enhanced the activity. Larger amounts of potassium (KCl or KNO3) gave severe deactivation.
