Adsorption affinity of oxygenates onto zeolites from aqueous solutions increases with increasing carbon number and decreases with zeolite pore size; it is also strongly correlated with the number and location of hydroxyl and carbonyl groups. These trends can be applied in the selection of zeolites for separating biomass-derived molecules.
