OE02 New and cheap non zeolitic silica based catalysts for the Beckmann rearrangement in the production of caprolactam and paracetamol, respectively, in comparison with expensive MCM 41 based catalysts

Caprolactam and paracetamol were synthesized via the environmentally benign Beckmann rearrangement of cyclohexanone oxime in gas phase and 4-hydroxyacetophenone oxime in liquid phase, respectively, over new and cheaply available catalysts based on Nb2O5 supported on SiO2.Yields of more than 95% of desired products for both the reactions are achieved.
