Mg/Al layered double hydroxides were synthesized by a simple, environmental friendly method; then, cerium oxide was incorporated following two different procedures. The photocatalytic properties of the Mg-Al-Ce system were for the first time tested on the degradation under UV radiation of three major pollutants: phenol, 4-chlorophenol and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol.
