Catalysts with controlled morphology can be synthesized using atomic layer deposition. 1 nm Pd nanoparticles surrounded by an Al2O3 bowl were deposited on metal oxide supports and characterized by DRIFTS, XPS, Raman, TEM and XANES.  These novel systems will be evaluated by hydrogenation catalysis.
