Isomerisation of allylbenzene to its cis/trans internal alkenyl aromatics has been studied over K2CO3/alumina at 323 K. The order of reaction was -0.67. A trans:cis ratio of ~7 was obtained in contrast to aliphatic alkenes, which favour the cis-isomer. The catalyst deactivated with time on stream due to carbonaceous residues.
