Theoretical predictions are presented showing very rapid ripening of individual nanoparticles. Comparison of the results with experimental observations informs that the Kelvin relation under-predicts ripening rate of small particles. Only ripening models that incorporate appropriate size-dependent energetics predict experimentally observed ripening rates.
