Pd-on-Au nanoparticles with variable Pd surface coverages (sc%) were synthesized and studied for glycerol oxidation. Initial turnover frequency reached a maximum of ~6000 h-1 at 80 sc%, >10 times more active than monometallic Au and Pd.  Glyceric acid yield, product selectivity, and catalyst deactivation are highly sensitive to Pd sc%.
