O-Tu-A-7 Selective Hydrogenation of Biomass-Derived Compounds over Pd-Re/Al2O3 Catalysts

PdRe/Al2O3 prepared from [Pd(NH3)4(ReO4)2] exhibits greatly enhanced activity and selectivity in hydrogenation of biomass model compounds as compared to conventional PdRe catalysts.  EXAFS spectra and STEM-EDX evidence very small (≤2 nm) bimetallic particles. TPR and TPHD also indicate metal-metal interaction.  Intimate Pd-Re contact improves selective hydrogenation performance.
