Durability and cost are key concerns for the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles.  The cost can be reduced by best utilizing the platinum group metals used in the catalysts.  The durability, more specifically reducing the electrode voltage performance loss over time, is a main focus for automotive PEMFC research.
