Synthesis and characterization of silica-supported zirconium amide for catalytic hydroboration of carbonyls will be presented. The precatalyst and catalytic materials have been characterized by solid-state NMR and IR spectroscopies, which reveal a new silica-supported zirconium hydride. Despite the oxophilicity of the zirconium, it is a catalyst for the reduction of oxygenates.
