To understand the impact of bulk chemical composition on surface dynamics and performance of the M1 phase in propane oxidation, bulk structure and surface properties of the selective MoVTeNb M1 oxide and the unselective MoV M1 oxide have been studied by X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and in situ XPS.
