Hydrogenation catalyst development is a key step to the multi-step coal-to-ethanol process. Co-Precipitation is a simple method to prepare Cu/SiO2 catalysts for Acetic Ester Hydrogenation to Ethanol. The phase evolution and the chemical states of the active copper were determined and correlated with catalytic performance.
