Oxidation and reduction of CuZn nanoparticles was studied using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and in situ transmission electron microscopy. Nanoparticles were produced with a gas-aggregation cluster source in conjunction with mass-filtration. Oxidation and reduction produced Cu particles decorated with clusters of ZnO. Repeated oxidation/reduction cycles revealed encapsulation/decapsulation of ZnO by CuO.
