The functionalization of methyl-9-oxononanoate is performed to produce monomers for the polymer industry in the presence of heterogeneous catalysts. The selective reduction of aldehyde-ester produces alcohol-ester with yields higher than 90%. Reductive amination of aldehyde group to primary amino-ester was investigated with success in the presence of gaseous ammonia.
