A new synthetic strategy is developed to engineer non-sintered and metal terminated transition metal carbide (TMC) nanoparticles with tunable size and crystal phase.  Monometallic and bimetallic TMC nanoparticles are engineered and extensively characterized to maximize electrochemical stability and activity for various electrochemical reactions, including hydrogen evolution and oxygenate electrooxidation.
