During the hydrochlorination of acetylene to vinyl chloride Au/C catalysts undergo rapid particle sintering.  Controlling particle growth is important for long term catalyst stability. Through the use of Strong Electrostatic Adsorption and Electroless Deposition gold is deposited onto a more stable base metal such as Pt or Pd.
