Transient kinetic experiments (SSITKA, CTKA and 12C16O/13C18O isotope scrambling) were combined with first-principles microkinetics approaches to investigate the CO activation mechanism that initiates the Fischer-Tropsch reaction. The results provide strong support for the importance of direct CO dissociation to obtain CHx building blocks relevant to methanation and the Fischer-Tropsch reaction.
