We will present our recent operando XAFS work on the characterization of PtCo, PtRe and Pt/C catalysts during the aqueous phase reforming of glycerol.  The activity/selectivity and structure of the nanoparticles were compared with predictions from density functional theory (DFT) calculations and strategies for controlling the catalyst selectivity will be discussed.
