Silver/alumina catalysts were studied to probe the chemistry of lean NOx reduction using oxygenated hydrocarbons. Using DRIFTS along with reactor studies we describe this chemistry in more detail and report the first lean NOx results that correlate the increasing selectivity of NOx to form ammonia with increasing ethanol concentrations.
