In situ GISAXS and GIXANES, in combination with ex situ AFM, TEM and RHEED reveal a strongly size- and temperature dependent evolution of the oxidation state, morphology and crystallinity of subnanometer to 20 nanometer large cobalt clusters under oxidative reaction conditions. The effect of support is discussed as well.
