Structural and electronic properties of unsupported intermetallic Ni-Zn catalysts were correlated with selectivity for the catalytic semi-hydrogenation of acetylene to ethylene. These results will aid in the design of base-metal catalyst replacements for precious metal selective hydrogenation catalysts.
