Renewable electricity and biomass  are pillars for a sustainable supply of energy and chemicals but develop independently. We  bring the two areas together by using electrocatalysis to convert biomass , 5-hydroxymethylfurfural ,  into fuel and chemicals (DMF and FDCA) electrochemically for energy storage purposes.
