Effect of Potassium Hydroxide on the Liquid Phase Hydrogenation of Cinnamaldehyde Using Pd/C Catalysts

Liquid phase hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde using supported Pd/C catalysts to understand the effect of potassium hydroxide on activity and selectivity.  Both catalysts were characterized with HR-XPS, LEISS, and SEM-EDS. Hydrocinnamaldehyde was the major product.  Treatment of the Pd/C catalyst with KOH reduced catalytic activity, but had no effect on selectivity.
