We investigated a mixed oxide catalyst (ZnxZryOz) with balanced acid/base sites capable of converting ethanol directly to isobutene in one continuous process. In this work, IR-Pyridine was utilized as a means to correlate the strength of acidic Brønsted sites with catalyst selectivity towards isobutene and stability against coke formation.
