Valorization of Humin Based By-products Formed during Biomass Processing Via Synthesis Gas Production Route

Acid catalyzed conversion of carbohydrates to hydoxymethylfurfural and levulinic acid yields large amount of solid byproducts called humins. Valorization of humins via gasification was demonstrated in this study. Dry reforming of humins was investigated systematically, showing their drastic changes in morphology, chemical structure and composition during heating to gasification temperature.
