Intermolecular hydrogen bonds of cellulose can be disrupted at low temperature in NaOH/ Urea solution, and the disrupted hydrogen bonds cannot be reformed after removing the solvent at room temperature. The treated cellulose was hydrolyzed by cellulase to glucose in 70% yields within 2 hours at room temperature.
