A systematic study of the oxidation of propene to acrolein, and 1-butene and trans-2-butene to butadiene over Bi1-x/3V1-xMoxO4 reveals that both reactions exhibit identical trends in activity with catalyst composition. A model for the dependence of catalyst activity on catalyst composition was developed that correctly describes the experimental results.
