Layered heteroatom-containing zeolite precursors are exfoliated via swelling in a fluoride/chloride surfactant mixture. The delaminated materials have significantly higher surface acid site density than their 3D zeolite analogues. The materials are characterized by XRD, Ar physisorption, NMR, FTIR and HRTEM. The delaminated materials show superior activity for alkylation of toluene.
