The Schwab effect is investigated quantitatively by varying the TiO2 carrier concentration over an order of magnitude in Pt/TiO2 catalysts. The CO oxidation rate changes by 30% and 70% in excess O2 and CO, respectively. Density functional theory relates the change in activity to charge transfer from TiO2 to Pt.
