Preliminary work has shown that hydrodeoxygenation can be performed on pyrolysis oil model compounds with ceria-zirconia mixed oxides. Temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) and hydrogen-deuterium (HD) exchange are used to identify key properties of HDO catalysts and to design catalysts that perform with a higher conversion and selectivity towards HDO products.
