Amorphous mesoporous oxides such as WOx-ZrO2 demonstrate superior activity, selectivity and stability compared to Y zeolite for aromatics production from alkylfurans and ethylene. Raman spectroscopy and the TOF trend with varying W surface densities suggest that the high reactivity is mainly associated with subnanometer WOx clusters mixed with Zr.
