O-M-BRA-14 Solid Acid Catalysts Modified with Poly-(vinyl pyrrolidone) for the Selective Production of Biomass-derived 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural

We report a novel solid acid catalyst modified with poly-(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) that shows increased HMF selectivity from fructose relative to non-modified solid acid catalysts. 13C NMR results show that PVP localized near acid sites accounts for increased fructose-furanose concentrations that facilitate fructose dehydration to HMF.
